Look, Listen, Push, Pull- Movement Science Made Simple

  • Hilary Opheim Pilates (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us in LA with Cara Reeser and Jeremy Lavadure

July 12- 13th for this workshop on Training Freedom and Support in the head, neck, and shoulders.

2 * 6hr In-Person Sessions
12 NPCP CECs available to attendees

The use of our neck and shoulder is central to our experience as humans. Our neck functions to position our head for seeing, hearing, and communicating and our shoulders allow us to reach and grasp in a large range. Because we use our neck and shoulders continuously throughout the day, this can be an area where we experience a lot of difficulty and discomfort. Poor postural habits, learned physical attitudes, and our universal use of computers probably contribute! Fortunately, good motor control and strengthening protocols have been shown to improve neck and shoulder function and reduce pain.

In this Movement Science Made Simple course we will:

  • Study the anatomy and biomechanics of the cervical spine and shoulder girdle.

  • Examine the relationship between the arms, shoulder girdle and trunk in both open and closed chain movements.

  • Learn simple exercises for mobilizing and strengthening the neck and shoulders and re-patterning their movement.

  • Find places in the standard Pilates repertoire where we can apply what we’ve learned in the context of our usual teaching of clients and classes.

From Outdated to Updated: Cueing, Connections and Kinesiology

Join the 2 Pilates Chicks LiVE on Zoom!

We want to help teachers come back to the basics, thinking about what we are asking the client to do. Simply state what we want the client to do without using memorized and outdated cues. Learn how the exercises affect the anatomy in movement to more accurately cue what is needing to happen in each exercise.

What are we asking the client to do?

What is anatomically occurring in the exercise: anatomy in motion?

What is the client potentially missing, and what simple direction might help them achieve it?

In this workshop you will learn to :

  • Simplify the practice of cueing to become more efficient and effective.

  • Eliminate outdated cues that have become popular jargon.

  • Understand the purpose of an exercise in order to cue accurately.

  • Increase awareness of anatomy in motion, how the body moves throughout an exercise to find cues that are not unintentionally counteracting what is occurring in the movement. (ex looking down in extension)

  • Increase awareness of common cues that are either inappropriate, ineffective, or harmful.

Prerequisites: Open to all Pilates teachers who have completed 450 hours of Pilates teacher training. Students still in a Teacher Training Program can attend workshop with written approval from the Director of their Training Program.

A Zoom link will be sent and the recording available for 30 days

4 CEC’s available

Cost: $150
